10 Great things about Grey Days

Jan 02

1. They don’t last forever. There will be another sunny day to look forward to as sure as night follows day.

2. You can use the tumble dryer without guilt and enjoy all those soft clothes that barely need ironing

3. You actually feel like staying in to work

4. It reminds you how lucky you are to have a roof over your head

5. You get to use your new umbrella. No new umbrella? Then you get to buy one. Can’t afford one? Then you get to find someone who will share theirs and make a new friend.

6. You are at least 60% water. Around 70% of the planet is covered by water. Only air is more essential for our survival. Those raindrops streaming down your windows are an instant meditation. Watch them and feel at one with your world

7. You have a perfect excuse for eating comfort food. Hotpots, rich and unctious broths, steaming stews and dumplings, old fashioned treacle puds – and no guilt because it’s cold outside!

8. Give your inner child an outing – wellies and waterproofs on and jump in the puddles, find a waterfall or go to the sea,  marvel at the noise and the power of it all

9. Remind yourself of that great life lesson: that blue sky and bright sunshine is always there behind the clouds. Appreciate and explore the current conditions. They are neither good nor bad, they are what they are and they will pass. The natural state is joy (sunshine) – the clouds, the wind, the rain, the sleet and snow are there to add interest, adventure, variety and enrichment.

10. You’re alive.
